A Festive Message
Hello again!
As we are fast approaching Christmas, I thought I would write to you in the old-fashioned way. Letters are now emails, cards are now texts, but sometimes it feels good to receive a more personal, almost hand-written piece.
We are continuing to move through a global crisis, and there is much panic and anxiety still in the world. Some of us are managing, some are struggling and there are those who are distressed, either physically or emotionally or both. And some have not survived.
My mother passed away this year after contracting Covid, so I do understand this Christmas will be a poignant time for many.
It is time to pause and reflect as everything begins to get festively busy.
However we are feeling, we have come a long way. It has not been a war, but it has felt like that at times. Especially for those who have been unwell or have lost someone close. Our lives have had to change and dramatically – and such radical change coupled with fear can be overwhelming.
Incredibly, people have rallied in the face of great challenge. And the change has given birth to something new for many. That is a sense of gratitude for what we have and the life we have been given. Each of us with a different path. Each of us with a different journey unique to our culture and experience etc.
Yet, we all walk the same path.
The advent of a pandemic has been part of our mutual journey. And we will emerge from it. Although our lives will be changed, we all have a chance to realign and to rebalance and renew.
We have choices and more will come as we move into 2022. Some say a very significant year and a new beginning.
We have shown amazing strength and determination and patience and endurance. We are surviving. That is something very special to celebrate in itself, whether you are of the Christian faith and celebrate Christmas or not.
There have been so many negatives to cloud the light in our world, to dampen the fun of living.
However you are spending Christmas, it is an opportunity to embrace yourself then each other with blessings and good will. To bring light into the darkness of Winter. Yet Winter skies can have their own amazing light and dramatic sunsets and stars which peer through midnight-blue skies.
If you are anticipating a family, group or more traditional Christmas, I wish you every joy on that day.
And if you are feeling more isolated on the 25th then I wish you also every joy you can experience.
For most of us, there can be crisp walks in the fresh air, the playing of beautiful music, the eating of delicious food or food treats and the possibility of laughter and connection.
That can be a connection with ourselves also.
A reminder of our ever-changing life and our place in the world.
How precious our life is. And how precious we all are.
Have a wonderful day, however you spend it.
Have fun.
